New Zealand won the toss and decided to batting first, New Zealand set the 48-run stand for opening partnership with John Morrison (15) bowled out by Intikhab Alam.

Pakistan bowler Javed Miandad - Intikhab Alam picked up two wickets and Sarfaraz Nawaz, Imran Khan, Asif Masood each took 1-1 wickets.

In reply Pakistan started well but opener Majid Khan (20) bowled out by debutant Andy Roberts, who was playing his first one-day match, after five runs Sadiq Mohammad (17) run out when Pakistan were 43-2.

After Sadiq Mohammad exit, Zaheer Abbas and Pakistan skipper Mushtaq Mohammad built the below 50-run stand for third wicket partnership.

New Zealand bowler David O'Sullivan took Zaheer Abbas (23) wicket with stumped by John Parker, at this stage Pakistan were 3-89 then Javed Miandad and Sadiq Mohammad score pushed to 139 after Mushtaq Mohammad caught out by Andy Roberts off Gary Troup, who playing his first one-day match.

New Zealand best bowling performance by Lance Cairns 2-36, Richard Collinge, Andy Roberts, Gary Troup and David O'Sullivan each took 1-1 wickets.

New Zealand captain Glenn Turner named Player of the match for his masterclass 67-runs off 104-balls in the 120 minutes.
