Spinners attack before Shikhar Dhawan's fastest century and Virat Kohli's superb unbeaten 82 led to India emphatic nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka and take a 1-0 lead in a one-sided game of the first ODI.

  • India's 9-wicket win was their joint second largest victory by terms of wickets remaining in One-day international, it is their 19th time win by nine wickets and 2nd time India had defeated Sri Lanka by nine or more wickets in ODIs.
  • Shikhar Dhawan hammered a 71-ball his fastest century for India in One-day internationals, His previous fastest ODI century came from 73 balls against West Indies at Kanpur in 2013 and the second fastest hundred by an Indian batsman against Sri Lanka in ODIs after Virender Sehwag's 66-ball century.
  • Shikhar Dhawan's 132 was his second highest score for India in One-day international and his highest-score against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
  • India's 127-ball spare was their third largest-victory by terms of balls remaining against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
  • 197* : Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli set up the fourth highest second-wicket partnership for India against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals, India's record second-wicket stand in Sri Lankan soil in ODIs, previously held by the 188-run stand between Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni against same opponent at Colombo (RPS) in 2009 and India's fourth highest any-wicket partnership in Sri Lankan soil in ODIs.

Sri Lanka scored 216 for all-out in 43.2 overs with top scorer by Niroshan Dickwella struck 64 off 74-balls including eight boundaries.

Kusal Mendis scored 36 off 37-balls including 5-fours, Angelo Mathews cracked a unbeaten 36 off 50-balls included one-six & a four and Danushka Gunathilaka hit 35 off 44-balls with 4-fours.

India best bowler by Axar Patel picked up 3-wickets for 34-runs in 10-overs, Jasprit Bumrah, Kedar Jadhav and Yuzvendra Chahal each took two-wickets.

India chased 220-1 in 28.5 overs with top scorer by Shikhar Dhawan 132 not out - which was his 11th ODI hundred and his third century against Sri Lanka in ODIs.

Virat Kohli cracked a unbeaten 82-runs off 70-balls including 10-fours and a six.

Shikhar Dhawan named Player of the match for his match-winning unbeaten scintillating 132-runs knocked off facing 90-balls including 20-fours and 3-sixes with strike rate of 146.66.
