Stunning centuries from Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane sets up to India massive 169-run victory over Sri Lanka and take a 1-0 lead in a one-sided game of the first ODI.

Match Stats : 
  • India's 169-run win was their eighth largest victory by terms of runs in One-day international and it is their second biggest win against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
  • India's 363 was their third highest score against Sri Lanka in One-day international and the highest total at Barabati Stadium in ODIs, previous highest was 301 by India against Zimbabwe in 1998.
  • India became only the second country to host 400 One-day International matches after Australia (559).
  • Zaheer Khan became the 12th Indian player to appearances 200 matches in One-day internationals (194 for India and 6 for Asia XI)
  • Suresh Raina became the 13th Indian player to appearances 200 matches in One-day internationals.
  • This was the 145th match between India and Sri Lanka. No other two teams have played this often against each other in ODIs as Sri Lanka - India have played.
  • After leading India in 12 ODIs - all outside India – Virat Kohli was captaining India for the first time on Indian soil.
  • 231 : Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane set up the third highest first-wicket partnership for India in One-day international and India's second best opening stand against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
  • 231 The first-wicket partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane, This is India's fourth 200-plus opening partnership in One-day international and their eighth 200-plus partnership against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
  • Suresh Raina completed his 5000 ODI runs. He became 11th Indian to accomplish this feat. Incidentally Suresh Raina is the slowest among Indians to reach this mark, taking 172 innings. Mohammad Azharuddin held the previous record with 170 innings.
  • This was the 20th time India scored 350 or more in a One-day internationals.
  • Sri Lanka's 194 was their second highest score against India in Indian soil in One-day internationals.

India scored massive total of 363-5 in 50 overs with top scorer by Shikhar Dhawan 113 off 107-balls - which was his 6th ODI hundred & his first century against Sri Lanka in ODIs - including 14-fours and 3-sixes.

Ajinkya Rahane 111 - which was his 2nd ODI hundred & his first century against Sri Lanka in ODIs, Suresh Raina blasted a 52 off 34-balls including 4-fours and 3-sixes with strike rate of 152.94, Ambati Rayudu 27 and Virat Kohli 22.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Suraj Randiv picked up 3-wickets, Ashan Priyanjan takes 1-wicket and debutant Lahiru Gamage took one-wicket on his debut ODI match.

Sri Lanka scored 194 for all-out in 39.2 overs with top scorer by Mahela Jayawardene struck 43 off 36-balls including six-fours and a six.

Thisara Perera scored 29 off 27-balls including 4-fours, Upul Tharanga 28, Angelo Matthews 23 and Tillakaratne Dilshan 18.

India best bowler by Ishanth Sharma claimed a 4-wickets for 34-runs in 8 overs, Axar Patel, Umesh Yadav both two-wickets and one for Suresh Raina - Ravichandran Ashwin.

Ajinkya Rahane named player of the match for his spectacular batting display of scoring a 111-runs knocked off facing 108-balls including 13-fours and 2-sixes with strike rate of 102.77.
