Aravind de Silva 145 and Arjuna Ranatunga's 40-ball 70 powered to Sri Lanka comfortable 144-run victory over Kenya, despite a fighting innings from Steve Tikola's 96 in the 28th match of a Wills World Cup Group.

  • Sri Lanka's 398 was the highest score ever in One-day international cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 363 by England against Pakistan at Nottingham in 1992 and also the highest total by any team in a World Cup history, surpassing the previous record of 360 by West Indies against Sri Lanka at Karachi in the 1987 World Cup.
  • Aravind de Silva, and then Arjuna Ranatunga crossed 5000 runs in ODI cricket, - the first two from Sri Lanka to do so - during this innings.
  • Aravinda de Silva's 145 was the highest score by an Sri Lankan batsman in One-day international cricket history, surpassing the previous record of 140 held by Sanath Jayasuriya against New Zealand at Bloemfontein in 1994 and the sixth highest-score by any batsman in a World Cup.
  • Aravinda de Silva became the first Sri Lankan batsman to score a century in World Cup history.
  • Steve Tikola's 96 was the highest score by an Kenya batsman in ODIs, surpassing the previous record of 85 held by Kennedy Otieno against Australia at Visakhapatnam earlier in this World Cup.

Sri Lanka scored record-breaking total of 398-5 in 50 overs with top scorer by Aravind de Silva 145 - which was his 4th ODI hundred and his first century against Kenya in ODIs.

Asanka Gurusinha struck 84 off 93-balls including 7-fours and 3-sixes, Arjuna Ranatunga cracked a unbeaten 75 off 40-balls including 13-fours and a six with strike rate of 187.50.

Sanath Jayasuriya hammered a quick-fire 27-ball 44-runs including 5-fours and three-sixes, Romesh Kaluwitharana scored 33 off 18-balls including four-fours and two-sixes.

Kenya best bowler by Tito Odumbe captured two-wickets, Aasif Karim and Martin Suji both took one-wickets.

Kenya scored 254-7 in 50 overs with top scorer by Steve Tikolo 96 - who fell four-run short of his century - including 8-fours and 4-sixes.

Hitesh Modi scored 41 off consuming 82-balls included two-fours, Dipak Chudasama 27, David Tikolo 25 and Lameck Onyango 23.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Arjuna Ranatunga, Muttiah Muralitharan both strikes two-wickets, Chaminda Vaas and Kumar Dharmasena both took one-wickets.

Aravind de Silva named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored record-breaking 145-runs off 115-balls including 14-fours and 5-sixes.
