Phillip Hughes' record debut century, George Bailey's 89 and David Hussey's quick-fire fifty before Clint McKay's four-for helped to Australia massive 107-run victory over Sri Lanka and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI.

Match Stats : 
  • Phillip Hughes became the first Australian batsman to score a hundred on debut match in One-day international cricket history and overall the eighth player in ODIs.
  • Phillip Hughes became the first batsman to score a century on ODI debut and a duck on Test debut. His Test debut came against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2009.
  • Six of the top seven scorers (including the top five) on ODI debut for Australia have been left-handers.
  • This is only the third time that Australia have fielded three debutants in the top three of the batting order. The previous two occasions came in the first ever ODI game and in 1977-78 during the Packer years.
  • Australia's 107-run win was their seventh largest victory by terms of runs against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals.
  • 140 : George Bailey and Phillip Hughes set up the fourth-highest third-wicket partnership for Australia against Sri Lanka in One-day internationals.
  • David Hussey's strike rate of 176.47 is the third-highest for a fifty-plus score for an Australian batsman in ODIs against Sri Lanka and the fourth-highest overall at the MCG (fifty-plus scores).
  • Clint McKay's 4 for 33 was his fifth four-wicket haul in ODIs. Three of those have come in matches against Sri Lanka.

Australia scored 305-5 in 50 overs with top scorer by Phillip Hughes 112 - which was his maiden ODI hundred, George Bailey struck 89 off 79-balls including 8-fours and a six.

David Hussey hammered a rapid 34-ball 60-runs including six-fours & a six with strike rate of 176.47 and Aaron Finch 16.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis each took one-wickets.

Sri Lanka scored 198 for all-out in 40 overs with top scorer by Dinesh Chandimal struck 73 off 95-balls including 7-fours and a six, Tillakaratne Dilshan cracked a 51 off 70-balls included four boundaries, Ajantha Mendis scored 20 and Nuwan Kulasekara 18.

Australia best bowler by Clint McKay claimed 4-wicket haul for 33-runs in 8-overs, Mitchell Johnson took 2-wickets and one for Mitchell Starc.

Phillip Hughes named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a 112-runs knocked off facing 129-balls including 14-fours.
