Ross Taylor's half-century before economical spell from Daniel Vettori and Jacob Oram's hat-trick gives New Zealand pulled off a thrilling 3-run victory over Sri Lanka, despite a Tillakaratne Dilshan's blazing fifty in a high-voltage historic game of the first T20I.

  • New Zealand's 3-run win was their smallest victory by terms of runs in T20 international, previous narrowest victory by 5-runs against England at Durban in the 2007 World Twenty20.
  • Tillakaratne Dilshan equalled a 23-ball joint seventh fastest fifty in T20 internationals, jointly with Sanath Jayasuriya and Chris Gayle.
  • Jacob Oram became the second bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 internationals after Brett Lee.
  • Jacob Oram became the first New Zealand bowler to claimed a hat-trick in T20 international cricket history.

New Zealand scored 141-8 in 20 overs with top scorer by Ross Taylor blasted a 60 off 45-balls including 5-fours & a six.

Martin Guptill struck 29 off 25-balls included 2-fours & a six and Jesse Ryder 13.

Sri Lanka scored 138-9 in 20 overs with top scorer by Tillakaratne Dilshan blasted a 57 off 28-balls including 8-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 203.57, Angelo Mathews 21, debutant Gihan Rupasinghe - who scored 15-runs on his debut T20I match.

New Zealand best bowler by Jacob Oram picked up 3-wickets, Daniel Vettori, Ian Butler both took two-wickets and one for Kyle Mills.

Daniel Vettori named Player of the match for his brilliant bowling performance to took 2-wickets for 11-runs in 4-overs with economy rate of 2.75.
