Debutant Adam Gilchrist - who scored 18 off 22-balls on his debut ODI match - including a boundary, Ricky Ponting 17 and Mark Waugh 16.
South Africa best bowler by Allan Donald 4-31, Pat Symcox, Nicky Boje both took 2-wickets and one for Brian McMillan.
South Africa chased 218-8 in 47.2 overs with top scorer by Daryll Cullinan cracked a unbeaten 71 off 115-balls including 6-fours.
Jonty Rhodes cracked a 42 off 50-balls including 4-fours, Andrew Hudson scored 32 off 45-balls included 5-fours.
Pat Symcox hammered a 26 off 21-balls included 5-fours and Brian McMillan 21.
Australia best bowler by Paul Reiffel claimed a 4-wickets for 35-runs in 10-overs including a maiden, Brad Hogg and Damien Fleming both took one-wickets.
Allan Donald named Player of the match for his pace bowling attack to claimed a 4-wickets for 31-runs in 8.3-overs.
