England captain Joe Root smashed a record-breaking 228-runs knocked off facing 321-balls including 18-fours and a six helped to England set up the the masses total of 421 against Sri Lanka in the first Test match.
* Joe Root became the fourth England batsman to score a four double-centuries in Test matches after Wally Hammond (7), Alastair Cook (5) and Leonard Hutton (4).
* Joe Root's 228 was his second best score for England in Test matches and the highest score by an England batsman against Sri Lanka in Tests, surpassing the previous record of 203 held by Jonathan Trott at Cardiff in 2011.
* Joe Root's 228 was the highest score by an England batsman in Sri Lanka in Test matches, surpassing the previous record of 151 held by Kevin Pietersen at Colombo (PSS) in 2012.
Joe Root who slammed his 4th Test double-century - which was his second double-hundred against Sri Lanka in Tests and his 200 came from 291-balls.
