Axar Patel's 5 for 62 was his fifth best bowling performance for India in Test matches. Shreyas Iyer became the seventh Indian No.5 batsman to score fifties in both innings of a Test match. Shreyas Iyer became the seventh Indian player to win the Man-of-the-match award on debut Test match. 419 : Ravichandran Ashwin became the third leading wicket-taker for India in Test matches after Anil Kumble (619) and Kapil Dev (434). Shreyas Iyer became the third Indian batsman to score fifties or more runs in both innings on debut Test match after Dilawar Hussain and Sunil Gavaskar.

* Crusial half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Wriddhiman Saha set the New Zealand target of 284 before Ravichandran Ashwin strikes early on the day four of the first Test match.

* Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel frustrates India as New Zealand hold on for draw, despite spinners Ravindra Jadeja's four-for and Ravichandran Ashwin's three-for in the final day of the first Test match.

New Zealand 1st Innings scored 296 for all-out in 142.3 overs with top scorer by Tom Latham 95 off 282 - who fell five-run short of his century - including 15-fours.

India 2nd Innings scored 234-7 for declared in 81 overs with top scorer by Shreyas Iyer 65, Wriddhiman Saha 61 not out, Ravichandran Ashwin 32, Axar Patel 28 not out, Cheteshwar Pujara 22 and Mayank Agarwal 17.

2nd Innings New Zealand best bowler by Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee both took 2-wickets and one for Ajaz Patel.

New Zealand 2nd Innings scored 165-9 in 98 overs with top scorer by Tom Latham 52, William Somerville 36, Kane Williamson 24 and Rachin Ravindra 18 not out.
