Australia's 169 was their lowest score in the completed innings in One-day internationals, previous lowest was 179 against same opponent at Birmingham in 1972. Mike Brearley captained England for the first time in his debut ODI match. He became the fourth debut player to captain for England in a ODI after Ray Illingworth, Brian Close and Mike Denness. Mike Brearley became the seventh England player to captain in a One-day international.

Australia scored modest total of 169-9 in 55 overs with top scorer by Debutant Craig Serjeant - who scored 46 off consuming 109-balls on his debut ODI match - including 4-fours & a six.

Rod Marsh blasted a 42 off 29-balls, Greg Chappell scored 30 off 63-balls included 3-fours and Debutant Kerry O'Keeffe - who scored 16 not out off 37-balls - on his debut ODI match - including a boundary.

England best bowler by Derek Underwood picked up 3-wickets for 29-runs in 11-overs including a maiden, Tony Greig takes 2-wickets for 11-runs in 4-overs, John Lever took 2-wickets and one for Bob Willis - Chris Old.

England chased 173-8 in 45.2 overs with top scorer by Graham Barlow scored a unbeaten 42 off 66-balls including 7-fours.

Debutant captain Mike Brearley - who scored 29 off consuming 70-balls on his debut ODI match - including 5-fours, Chris Old cracked a 25 off 23-balls included 4-fours, Tony Greig 22, Alan Knott 21 not out and Derek Randall 19.

Australia best bowler by Max Walker picked up 3-wickets for 20-runs in 7-overs including three maidens.

Debutant Mick Malone - who took 2-wickets on his debut ODI match and another Debutant Kerry O'Keeffe - who took one-wicket on his debut ODI match.

Rod Marsh named Player of the match for his quick-fire 42 off 29-balls including 5-foura & 2-sixes with strike rate of 144.82.
