  • England chased 170 was their second lowest successful run-chase in One-day internationals.
  • Australia's 169 was their lowest score in the completed innings in One-day internationals, previous lowest was 179 against same opponent at Birmingham in 1972.
  • Mike Brearley captained England for the first time in his debut ODI match. He became the fourth debut player to captain for England in a ODI after Ray Illingworth, Brian Close and Mike Denness.
  • Mike Brearley became the seventh England player to captain in a One-day international.

Australia scored modest total of 169-9 in 55 overs with top scorer by Debutant Craig Serjeant - who scored 46 off consuming 109-balls on his debut ODI match - including 4-fours & a six.

Rod Marsh blasted a 42 off 29-balls, Greg Chappell scored 30 off 63-balls included 3-fours and Debutant Kerry O'Keeffe - who scored 16 not out off 37-balls - on his debut ODI match - including a boundary.

England best bowler by Derek Underwood picked up 3-wickets for 29-runs in 11-overs including a maiden, Tony Greig takes 2-wickets for 11-runs in 4-overs, John Lever took 2-wickets and one for Bob Willis - Chris Old.

England chased 173-8 in 45.2 overs with top scorer by Graham Barlow scored a unbeaten 42 off 66-balls including 7-fours.

Debutant captain Mike Brearley - who scored 29 off consuming 70-balls on his debut ODI match - including 5-fours, Chris Old cracked a 25 off 23-balls included 4-fours, Tony Greig 22, Alan Knott 21 not out and Derek Randall 19.

Australia best bowler by Max Walker picked up 3-wickets for 20-runs in 7-overs including three maidens.

Debutant Mick Malone - who took 2-wickets on his debut ODI match and another Debutant Kerry O'Keeffe - who took one-wicket on his debut ODI match.

Rod Marsh named Player of the match for his quick-fire 42 off 29-balls including 5-foura & 2-sixes with strike rate of 144.82.
