Half-centuries from Gordon Greenidge and Clive Lloyd before Andy Roberts and Joel Garner's combined 5-wickets helped to West Indies comprehensive 32-run victory over New Zealand and enter into the semi-final in the tenth match of a Prudential World Cup.

West Indies scored 244-7 in 60 overs with top scorer by Clive Lloyd 73 not out, Gordon Greenidge struck 65 off 95-balls including 3-fours & a six.

Alvin Kallicharran scored 39 off 68-balls including 2-fours, Desmond Haynes, Collis King and Deryck Murray each scored 12-runs.

New Zealand best bowler by Jeremy Coney and Lance Cairns both took 2-wickets, Debutant Ewen Chatfield - who took one-wicket on his debut ODI match, Richard Hadlee and Brian McKechnie both took 1-wickets.

New Zealand scored 212-9 in 60 overs with top scorer by Richard Hadlee hit 42 off 48-balls including 4-fours.

Jeremy Coney cracked a 36 off 54-balls including 3-fours, Mark Burgess scored 35 off 49-balls included 3-fours, Glenn Turner 20 and John Wright 15.

West Indies best bowler by Andy Roberts picked up 3-wickets, Joel Garner takes 2-wickets, Michael Holding, Colin Croft and Collis King each took 1-wickets.

Clive Lloyd named the Player of the match for his masterclass unbeaten 73-runs knocked off facing 80-balls including 4-fours.


The West Indies, despite losing Viv Richards (9) early, piled on 7-244 against New Zealand. Gordon Greenidge hit 65 and Clive Lloyd was on 73 when the 60 overs ran out.

New Zealand lost 4-91 before pace bowler Richard HadIce hit 42. The Kiwis fell only 32 short on 9-212. New Zealand could still reach the final by beating England in their semi-final. Pakistan must beat the West Indies to survive.
