  • India's 78-run win was their largest victory by terms of runs in One-day internationals, previous biggest win by 66-runs against Australia at Melbourne in 1980.
  • This is the India's first ODI win against Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI meeting between these sides since 1979.
  • Gandhi Sports Complex Ground, Amritsar became the 4th Indian venue to host a One-day international match and the 32nd venue in the world to host a ODI match.

* Sri Lanka were never in the game, being unable to start steady, they scored 27 in their first 10-overs.


India scored 269-7 in the alloted 46 overs with top scorer by Kris Srikkanth hammered a 57 off 43-balls including 10-fours & a six.

Kapil Dev blasted a 49 off 31-balls including 3-fours & a six, Ashok Malhotra cracked a 40 off 60-balls, Yashpal Sharma scored a run-a-ball 37-runs.

Dilip Vengsarkar scored 23 off 37-balls, Roger Binny 16 and Sandeep Patil 15.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Bandula Warnapura, Somachandra De Silva both took 2-wickets, Anura Ranasinghe, Debutant Vinothen John and Ashantha de Mel each took one-wickets.

Sri Lanka scored 191-8 in 46 overs with top scorer by Sidath Wettimuny struck 43 off 60-balls, Roy Dias hit 39 off 49-balls.

India best bowler by Dilip Joshi claimed a career-best 4-wickets for 44-runs in 10-overs, Mohinder Amarnath took 2-wickets and one for Kapil Dev - Madan Lal.
