Sri Lanka won the one-day cricket series against Australia today when heavy rain forced the abandonment of the third match when the touring team was five for 194 off 39.2 overs.

Sri Lanka beat the Australians in the firm two matches. Victory in the series was some consolation for the home side which was beaten by an innings earlier this week in the first Test match between the countries

The heavy rain came after four months of drought and soaked the Sinhalese Sports Club.

The rain has put in doubt the last match in the series which is due to be played tomorrow at the same ground Sri Lanka put the Australians in to bat and openers Graeme Wood, with 35. and Kepler Wessels, with 43. gave the tourists a strong opening partnership of 60.

Graham Yallop, first drop, continued the fine form he has shown on the tour, stroking a half century after being dropped when one. Playing some forceful strokes, Yallop helped to accelerate the scoring rate and saw the total reach 100 in 90 minutes off 21 overs.

Sri Lanka's right-arm leg-spinner Somachandra De Silva was the most successful bowler, capturing two wickets for 51 in his allotted nine overs.
