HOBART: A maiden Australian century to Rameez Raja has taken Pakistan to victory over Sri Lanka and into the world series cricket finals against Australia.
The Pakistanis shut the door on any hopes Sri Lanka may have had of making the finals when they controlled the one day match with both bat and ball at Bellerive Oval.
Waqar Younus took four for 39 including the first two wickets as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 195 from 47.5 overs.
Then Rameez scored his first century on four trips to Australia when he carried his bat for 116 as Pakistan won in 48.3 overs.
"The wicket was very good for batting for the side in second," Rameez said afterwards.
Rameez scored 116 from 150 balls in 198 minutes to better his previous highest one day score of 113.
"I went out there today determined to stay around for at least 10 overs," he said.
"I am very pleased to have finally made a century in Australia as cricket has a very high profile here."
Pakistan openers Rameez and Saeed Anwar began in a manner that suggested they wanted the game over quickly, taking 50 runs from the first nine overs.
In the Sri Lankan innings captain Arjuna Ranatunga (4) and Ashanka Gurusinha (59) made a 73-run partnership to lift their team into a position for a total well over 200.
But then Pakistan struck and the last six wickets fell for 44 runs to set a moderate target of 196 for victory.
