A devastating bowling spell from 20-year-old leg-spinner Anil Kumble, Sanjay Manjrekar's spectacular 82 and Captain Mohammad Azharuddin's unbeaten half-century helped to India famous win against England by 6-wickets at Leeds after 16 years and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI.
England scored 229 for all-out in 54.3 overs with top scorer by Allan Lamb struck 56 off 77-balls including three boundaries.
David Gower scored 50 off 95-balls including 3-fours, Graham Gooch struck 45 off 75-balls included 7-fours and Jack Russell 14.
India best bowler by Manoj Prabhakar picked up 3-wickets for 40-runs in 10.3-overs, Kapil Dev, Sanjeev Sharma, Anil Kumble each took 2-wickets and one for Ravi Shastri.
India chased 223-4 in 53 overs with top scorer by Sanjay Manjrekar cracked a 82 off 133-balls including 7-fours.
Mohammad Azharuddin hit a unbeaten 55 off 50-balls including 5-fours, Navjot Sidhu struck 39 off 70-balls included 5-fours.
Ravi Shastri cracked a unbeaten 23 off 29-balls contained 4-fours and Sachin Tendulkar scored 19 off 35-balls including one-six & a four.
England best bowler by Chris Lewis took two-wickets and one for Phil DeFreitas - Devon Malcolm.
Anil Kumble named Player of the match for his devastating economical bowling performance to took 2-wickets for 29-runs in 11-overs including two maidens with economy rate of 2.63.
Anil Kumble, a 20-year-old leg-spinner, picked up the Man-of-the-match award for his two wickets those of David Gower and Robin Smith for 29 from 11 overs.
