A superb unbeaten 72 by heroic Tilak Varma steers to India tense two-wicket victory over England, despite a fightback from Brydon Carse's three-for and go up 2-0 lead in a nail-biter game of the second T20I.

  • India chased 166 was their second highest successful run-chase against England in T20 international after they have chased 199 at Bristol in 2018.
  • England's 58 for 2 was their joint fifth highest powerplay total against India in T20 internationals (powerplay of 6-overs).
  • England's 78 for 4 was their 13th most runs after ten overs against India in T20Is.
  • England's 165 was their tenth highest score against India in T20 international and the lowest total by any team in a completed innings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai in T20Is, previous lowest-score by India 166 against New Zealand in 2012.
  • India's 59 for 3 was their joint sixth highest powerplay total against England in T20 internationals (powerplay of 6-overs).
  • India's 79 for 5 was their sixth most runs after ten overs against England at their home venue in T20Is.
  • 38 : Tilak Varma and Washington Sundar set up the fifth highest sixth-wicket partnership for India against England in T20Is.
  • 20 : Tilak Varma and Arshdeep Singh set up the record eighth-wicket partnership for India against England in T20Is, previously held by the 14-run stand between Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
  • Tilak Varma's unbeaten 72 was his third highest score for India in T20 international and the eighth highest-score by an Indian batsman against England in T20Is.


England scored 165-9 in 20 overs with top scorer by Jos Buttler blasted a 45 off 30-balls including 3-sixes & 2-fours with strike rate of 150.

Brydon Carse hammered a 31 off 17-balls including 3-sixes & a four with strike rate of 182.35, Jamie Smith hammered a 22 off 12-balls including 2-sixes & a four with strike rate of 183.33.

Harry Brook hit 13 off 8-balls contained one-six & a four with strike rate of 162.50, Liam Livingstone scored 13 off 14-balls included a four, Jofra Archer 12 not out and Adil Rashid 10.

India best bowler by Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy both captured 2-wickets, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh each took one-wickets.

India chased 166-8 in 19.2 overs with top scorer by Tilak Varma hammered a unbeaten 72 off 55-balls, Washington Sundar blasted a 26 off 19-balls including 3-fours & a six with strike rate of 136.84.

Suryakumar Yadav struck 12 off 7-balls contained three-fours, Abhishek Sharma struck 12 off 6-balls with 3-fours with strike rate of 200 and Ravi Bishnoi hit a unbeaten 9 off 5-balls including 2-fours with strike rate of 180.

England best bowler by Brydon Carse picked up 3-wickets for 29-runs in 4-overs, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Jamie Overton, Mark Wood and Jofra Archer each took one-wickets.

Tilak Varma named Player of the match for his match-winning superb unbeaten 72 off facing 55-balls including 5-sixes & 4-fours with strike rate of 130.90.
