Richard Reid, Ken Rutherford's fifties and Ian Smith's whirlwind 21-ball 42* before Willie Watson's three-for sets up to New Zealand's massive 107-run victory over Sri Lanka and clinch the three-match series with 3-0 whitewash

  • New Zealand's 107-run win was their seventh largest victory by terms of runs in One-day international and It is their second biggest win against Sri Lanka in ODIs after their 116-run win at Auckland in 1983.
  • This is the tbird time New Zealand have whitewashed their oppositions in a bilateral three-match series in One-day international and their second against Sri Lanka in ODIs.
  • This is the third time Sri Lanka have suffered a clean sweep in a bilateral three-match series in ODIs.

New Zealand scored 272-6 in 50 overs with top scorer by Ken Rutherford cracked a 65 off 78-balls, Richard Reid struck 53 off 68-balls including 6-fours.

Ian Smith hammered a unbeaten 42 off 21-balls included 5-fours & a six with strike rate of 200, Andrew Jones scored 35 off 41-balls including a boundary, Martin Crowe cracked a 31 off 50-balls included 2-fours & a six and Mark Greatbatch hit 26 off 39-balls contained 2-fours.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Arjuna Ranatunga, Champaka Ramanayake both took 2-wickets and one for Kapila Wijegunawardene - Asanka Gurusinha.

Sri Lanka bundled out for 165 in 33.1 overs with top scorer by Arjuna Ranatunga struck 50 off 59-balls including four boundaries.

Aravinda de Silva scored 21 off 22-balls including three boundaries, Rumesh Ratnayake hit 19 off 23-balls contained two boundaries, Asoka de Silva 16 and Asanka Gurusinha 15.

New Zealand best bowler by Willie Watson picked up 3-wickets for 39-runs in 7-overs, Ken Rutherford, Martin Crowe, Richard Reid, Chris Pringle, Chris Harris and Gavin Larsen each took one-wickets.

Ken Rutherford named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a 65 off 78-balls including five boundaries.
