Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith and Josh Inglis sets up to Australia's record-breaking innings and 242-run victory over Sri Lanka's listless batting order and take a 1-0 lead in a one-sided game of first Test match.

  • Australia's 242-run win was his their fourth largest victory by terms of innings and runs in Test matches and It is their biggest win against Sri Lanka in Tests, previous biggest win by innings and 201-run at Melbourne in 2012.
  • Steve Smith became the fourth Australian batsman to reach 10000 Test runs after Ricky Ponting (13378), Allan Border (11174) and Steve Waugh (10927) and overall the 15th player in Tests.

  • This is the 36th instance of Australia's three or more batsmen were scores of centuries or more runs in a Test innings and It is their fifth such instance of Australia's three batsmen were scores of hundreds or more runs against Sri Lanka in a Test innings.
  • Josh Inglis became the 21st Australian batsman to score a hundred on debut Test match.
  • Josh Inglis became the second Australian batsman to score a century against Sri Lanka on debut Test match after Shaun Marsh 141 at Pallekele in 2011.

Australia 1st Innings scored 654-6 for declared in 154 overs with top scorer by Usman Khan blasted a career-best 232 off 353-balls - which was his 1st Test double-hundred - including 16-fours & a six with strike rate of 65.90.

Steve Smith struck 141 off 251-balls - which was his 35th Test hundred and his third century against Sri Lanka in Tests - including 12-fours & 2-sixes.

Debutant Josh Inglis - who hammered a 102 off 94-balls on his debut Test match - including 10-fours & a six with strike rate of 108.51, Travis Head hammered a 57 off 40-balls including 10-fours & a six with strike rate of 142.50.

Alex Carey scored a unbeaten 46 off 69-balls including a boundary, Beau Webster hit 23 off 50-balls included a boundary.

Marnus Labuschagne scored 20 off 57-balls included two boundaries and Mitchell Starc hit a run-a-ball unbeaten 19-runs Including 2-fours & a six.

1st Innings Sri Lanka best bowler by Jeffrey Vandersay and Prabath Jayasuriya both picked up 3-wickets.

Sri Lanka 1st Innings scored 165 for all-out in 52.2 overs with top scorer by Dinesh Chandimal cracked a 72 off 139-balls including 9-fours.

Dhananjaya de Silva scored 22 off 34-balls including two boundaries, Kamindu Mendis hit 21 off 40-balls included one-six & a four, Oshada Fernando, Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews each scored 7-runs.

1st Innings Australia best bowler by Matthew Kuhnemann claimed a 5-wicket haul for 63-runs in 18.2-overs including three maidens, Nathan Lyon picked up 3-wickets and Mitchell Starc took 2-wickets.

Sri Lanka 2nd Innings 247 for all-out in 247 overs (follow-on) with top scorer by Angelo Mathews cracked a 41 off 59-balls including 6-fours.

Jeffrey Vandersay hammered a 53 off 47-balls including 7-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 112.76,Dhananjaya de Silva struck 39 off 50-balls including 8-fours with strike rate of 78, 

Kusal Mendis blasted a 34 off 47-balls included 4-fours, Kamindu Mendis blasted a 32 off 26-balls contained 4-fours & a six and Dinesh Chandimal hit 31 off 49-balls including 3-fours.

2nd Innings Australia best bowler by Nathan Lyon claimed a 4-wickets for 78-runs in 19-overs including four maidens.

Matthew Kuhnemann captured 4-wickets for 86-runs in 17.3-overs including two maidens, Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy both took one-wickets.

Usman Khawaja named Player of the match for his brilliant batting performance to scored a career-best 232 off facing 352-balls including 16-fours & a six.
