A superb unbeaten 88 by Dean Jones and Mark Waugh's run-a-ball 67 before Craig McDermott's four-for gives Australia stunning 35-run victory over West Indies, despite a Richie Richardson - Gus Logie's fifties and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI.
Australia scored 244-4 in 50 overs with top scorer by Dean Jones cracked a unbeaten 88 off 105-balls including 6-fours, Mark Waugh hit a run-a-ball 67-runs including 6-fours.
David Boon scored 34 off 68-balls including two boundaries and Geoff Marsh struck 26 off 54-balls included 3-fours.
West Indies best bowler by Courtney Walsh, Carl Hooper and Curtly Ambrose each took one-wickets.
West Indies scored 209 for all-out in 46 overs with top scorer by Gus Logie cracked a run-a-ball 65-runs including 7-fours.
Richie Richardson struck 64 off 66-balls including 5-fours & a six, Gordon Greenidge scored 19 off consumed 75-balls contained two boundaries.
Viv Richards scored a run-a-ball 18-runs including 3-fours and Desmond Haynes hit 17 off 20-balls contained three-fours.

AUSTRALIA took the lead in the first of five One-Day Internationals to be played on the tour by defeating the West Indies by 36 runs at Sabina Park, Kingston Jamaica on Tuesday. Australia won the toss and batted.
Their opening pair of David Boon and Geoff Marsh gave them a solid start of 59 before being separated, then at 98 for three, with Allan Border Falling cheaply to Carl Hooper, Dean Jones and Mark Waugh came together in the most scintillating partnership of the match. They brought up the hundred partnership in 125 minutes off 27.2 overs and raced to 136 runs between them before Waugh fell for 67.
Jones went on to score 88 not out and to be named Man of the Match. Australia ended their innings at 244 for four, a ground record for limited over matches at Sabina Park.
When the West indies began their reply, they were bogged down by steady bowling by Australia. They lost the inform Desmond Haynes for 17, Gordon Greenidge for 19 and when Carl Hooper went LBW to Steve Waugh for six, there was trouble in the camp.
Skipper Richards and Richie Richardson briefly raised the hopes of The West Indies, then Gus Logie and Richardson played the best West In- dies partnership of the match. They quickened the scoring rate putting together 95 valuable runs in the process with good running between the wickets and punishing every loose ball they received.
The pair set the West Indies on a winning course needing 53 runs off 50 balls before misfortune struck. Logie was caught by Steve Waugh off his twin Mark after scoring 65 runs off 58 balls, then at 190 Richardson followed for 65.
The West Indies lower order batting offered no resistance and they lost five wickets for 19 runs with Craig McDermott claiming four wickets for 34 runs.
