Ibrahim Zadran's own record-breaking 177 and Azmatullah Omarzai's maiden five-for gives England hard-fought 8-run victory over England, despite a masterclass century by Joe Root and keeps alive their campaign in a high-scoring thriller of the 8th match of a ICC Champions Trophy.

  • Afghanistan's 8-run win was their second smallest victory by terms of runs in One-day international after their 1-run win against Canada at Sharjah in 2010, It is their narrowest win against England in ODIs after they have won by 69-runs at Delhi in the 2023 World Cup and the second narrowest win in Champions Trophy after India's 5-run win also against England in the final of 2013 Champions Trophy.
  • Afghanistan's 325 was their fifth highest score in One-day international, It is their highest total against England in ODIs, previous highest was 284 at Delhi in 2023.
  • Afghanistan's 325 was the sixth highest total in Champions Trophy.
  • Ibrahim Zadran's 177 was the highest score by an Afghanistan batsman in ODI, improving his own record of 162 against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2022 and the highest-score by any batsman in Champions Trophy history, surpassing the previous record of 165 held by Ben Duckett against Australia at same earlier in this tournament.

Afghanistan scored massive total of 325-7 in 50 overs with top scorer by Ibrahim Zadran hammered a career-best 177 off 146-balls - which was his 6th ODI hundred and his first century against England in ODIs.

Azmatullah Omarzai blasted a 41 off 31-balls including 3-sixes & a four with strike rate of 132.25, Mohammad Nabi hammered a 40 off 24-balls included 3-sixes & 2-fours with strike rate of 166.66 and Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 40 off 67-balls contained three-fours.

England best bowler by Jofra Archer picked up 3-wickets for 64-runs in 10-overs, Liam Livingstone took 2-wickets and one for Adil Rashid - Jamie Overton.

England scored 317 for all-out in 49.5 overs with top scorer by Joe Root struck 120 off 111-balls - which was 17th ODI hundred and his first century against Afghanistan in ODIs - including 11-fours & a six with strike rate of 108.10.

Jos Buttler hit 38 off 42-balls including 2-sixes, Ben Duckett cracked a 38 off 45-balls included 4-fours.

Jamie Overton struck 32 off 28-balls including 3-fours, Harry Brook scored 25 off 21-balls included three-fours and Jofra Archer hit 14 off 8-balls contained 2-fours.

Afghanistan best bowler by Azmatullah Omarzai claimed a career-best 5-wicket haul for 58-runs in 9.5-overs, Mohammad Nabi captured two-wickets, Gulbadin Naib, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid Khan each took one-wickets.

Ibrahim Zadran named Player of the match for his own record-breaking batting performance to smashed a career-best 177-runs knocked off facing 146-balls including 12-fours & 6-sixes with strike rate of 121.23.
