Kepler Wessels' second successive half century failed to save South Africa from defeat against India.
India took a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match. one-day series marking the South Africans' first appearance in international cricket for 21 years when they restricted the touring team to 185 for eight in reply to their 223 for six.
South Africa were always struggling to match India's run rate after losing Jimmy Cook, caught behind off an outswinger from Kapil Dev, in the first over without a run on the board.
Wessels, who made 50 in the first match in Calcutta, and Mandy Yachad put on 94 for the second wicket.
But Yachad was unable to get the better of an accurate attack, labouring for 78 balls over his 31. Wessels made 71.
Earlier, South Africa had undermined their chances with some sloppy fielding during an Indian Innings given a flying start by Navjot Sidhu, who made 61, and Krishnamachari Srikkanth.
Former Indian captain Srikkanth, returning to the side after an absence of two years, looked as though he had never been away. He made 68 off 87 balls as the pair put on 130 for the first wicket.
