Pace bowler Waqar Younis' economical bowling figures before Ramiz Raja and Javed Miandad's fifties leads to Pakistan easy eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI.

Sri Lanka scored 155-6 in the allotted 40 overs with top scorer by Hashan Tillakaratne hit a unbeaten 37 off 

Asanka Gurusinha struck 37 off 56-balls including 3-fours, Sanath Jayasuriya scored 26 off 37-balls included a boundary and Aravinda de Silva 19.

Pakistan best bowler by Waqar Younis captured 2-wickets for 13-runs in 8-overs including two maidens with economy rate of 1.62, Aaqib Javed, Imran Khan and Akram Raza each took one-wickets.

Pakistan chased 157-2 in 36.5 overs with top scorer by Ramiz Raja cracked a 74 off 83-balls including 10-fours.

Javed Miandad hit a unbeaten 60 off 105-balls including 7-fours, Saleem Malik and Zahid Fazal each scored 9-runs.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Champaka Ramanayake and Kapila Wijegunawardene both took one-wickets.

Pakistan cruised to an easy win in their first one-day international against Sri Lanka on Friday.Having limited the tourists to 155 in 40 overs, Pakistan coasted to victory with eight wickets remaining and more than three overs to spare.

Rameez Raja led the Pakistan attack with a masterly 74, while the recently out-of-form Javed Miandad provided the necessary support with an unbeaten 60.

Raja, who replaced Shoaib Mohammed as opener, won the man of the match award for his innings at the packed Sargodha Stadium.

Miandad, who was facing a fitness problem, played his first long innings following successive dismal performances in the three-Test series, which Pakistan won 1-0 after the first two rain-marred Tests ended in draws.

After being put into bat by the home side, Sri Lanka were soon in trouble when openers Roshan Mahanama and Chandika Hathurasinghe were both dismissed without reaching double figures, leaving the tourists struggling on 27 for two.

Waqar Younis trapped Mahanama leg before for five, while Hathurasinghe was caught by keeper Mosin Khan off Imran Khan for six.

Asanka Gurusinha led a Sri Lankan recovery, scoring a brisk 37 before being caught by Imran Khan off the bowling of Akram Raza.

At the end of their allotted 40 overs, Sri Lanka had made 155 for the loss of six wickets, with Hashan Tillakaratne not out on 37.

Younis got two wickets for Pakistan while Aaqib, Imran Khan and Raza shared one each. Sanath Jayasuriya, considered Sri Lanka's most dependable batsman, was unlucky to be run out while on 26.
