Opener Desmond Haynes' 45 and Brian Lara's maiden half-century before Carl Hooper's career-best 4-wickets helped to West Indies easy 24-run victory over Pakistan and take a 1-0 lead in a 34-over-per-a-side game of the first ODI.


West Indies scored 170-6 in the allotted 34 overs with top scorer by Brian Lara struck 54 off 59-balls including 2-fours.

Desmond Haynes hit 45 off 76-balls including 4-fours, Philo Wallace hit 22 off 39-balls included 3-fours and Carl Hooper scored a run-a-ball 17-runs contained a boundary.

Pakistan best bowler by Wasim Akram picked up 3-wickets for 27-runs in 6-overs, Mushtaq Ahmed took 2-wickets and one for Aaqib Javed.

Pakistan bowled out for 146 in 33.5 overs with top scorer by Javed Miandad cracked a 31 off 37-balls including a boundary.

Moin Khan hit 18 off 20-balls including 2-fours, Zahid Fazal scored 17 off 39-balls contained two boundaries, Saleem Malik 16 and Imran Khan 15.

West Indies best bowler by Carl Hooper claimed a career-best 4-wickets for 34-runs in 7.5-overs, Curtly Ambrose and Patrick Patterson both took 2-wickets.

The West Indies strolled to an easy 24-run victory over Pakistan in their first one-day cricket international on Wednesday amid turbulent scenes at Karachi's National Stadium.

Play was halted several times by pitch invasions, and when it became clear Pakistan was going to lose, some of the crowd began pelting the West Indies fielders with missiles.

Anderson Cummins was hit on the shoulder by a piece of a broken chair and went off the field in the closing overs of the Pakistan innings.

West Indies made 6-170 after captain Richie Richardson won the toss, but Pakistan managed to bowl only 34 of the scheduled 40 overs in the allotted time.

Master batsman Javed Miandad was the only Pakistani to play a solid innings, contributing 31 as the home side was bundled out for 146 in 33.5 overs.

Trinidadian Brian Lara, top scorer in the game with 54, was declared man of the match, while Carl Hooper emerged as the best bowler, taking 4-34 in 7.5 overs.
